Handmade Christmas Gift Idea: Create Your Own Drawstring Pouch
The holiday season is a perfect time to get crafty, and what better way to spread some cheer than with a handmade gift? Today, I’ll guide you through creating a charming drawstring pouch that’s perfect for holding little treasures or holiday goodies. This simple project is not only fun to make but also adds a personal touch to your gift-giving. Let’s get started!

What You’ll Need:
Two pieces of fabric (choose a fun pattern!)
A plate (to trace your circle, the bigger the plate the bigger the pouch)
Scissors
Sewing machine
Pins
safety pin
Wooden spoon (for turning)
Ribbon or twine
Beads (optional)
Step-by-Step Instructions:
Choose Your Fabric and Plate: Start by deciding on the plate you’ll use as a template. Ensure your fabric is larger than the plate to allow for seam allowance.
Prepare the Fabric: Place the two pieces of fabric right sides together. This means the patterned sides should be facing inwards, as you’ll turn them out later.
Trace the Circle: Using a regular pen, draw a line around the plate on the fabric. This will be your sewing line. Once you’ve traced it, pin the two pieces of fabric together to keep them in place.
Sew the Circle: Sew along the line you just drew. Remember to backstitch at the beginning and end to secure your stitches. Leave a 2-inch gap to turn the pouch right side out.
Trim the Edges: Cut about 1/4 inch away from your stitched line. This will help the edges to lay flat once turned.
Turn the Pouch: Carefully turn the circle right side out through the gap you left. Use the end of a wooden spoon to gently push out the edges for a nice, rounded finish. Once done, give it a quick iron to smooth everything out.
Top Stitch: Stitch as close to the edge of the circle as possible. This not only looks great but also helps to keep the fabric in place.
Create Channels: Sew two more lines inside the outer stitch line of the circle. These will form a little channel for your drawstring.
Add the Drawstring: Carefully cut a small slot in the channel, ensuring you only cut through one layer of fabric. Attach a safety pin to one end of your ribbon or twine, and thread it through the channel until you come full circle.
Finish the Ends: Thread a bead onto the ends of the ribbon and tie a knot. Repeat on the opposite side of the circle by cutting another tiny slot, pulling the loop out, and adding a bead.
Test Your Pouch: Pull on the drawstrings to ensure it opens and closes smoothly. And there you have it—your very own drawstring pouch, perfect for holding little jewels or holiday treats!
